Jim DeArman's comments: March-April 1967 in Dau Tieng Vietnam. C-130B
mechanical failure. Left flap screw stripped and locked into aileron. Came down in
plowed field with one tree. Pilot hit tree with #4 prop. Gear down and lost nose
gear. Slid into ditch on edge of field and broke the airframe.
Update: In discussion with Bob Daley, the aircraft appears to be 60-0307
lost on 17 Feb 67. In his list of C-130 Losses in Southeast Asia, Bob has the location
listed as Tay Ninh.
Tay Ninh is a Province ( as well as a town). Tay Ninh Province contains Dau Tieng.
Tay Ninh Base Camp (TNBC) was the 4th Battalion's "Home". TNBC, was located
about 6 miles northwest of Tay Ninh City. About 30 miles northeast of TNBC was the
village of Dau Tieng (DT). It housed the Michelin rubber plantation headquarters
and processing facilities. DT usually housed the headquarters of the 2d Bde, 25th
Division. |
