| Mark "Ski" Sierzchulski adds: "The picture is of aircraft 61-2642, which was hit by a 122mm rocket in Danang in February, 1971. The aircraft was part of a detatchment that was in support of operation Dewey Canyon II/Lam Son 719. I was part of that detatchment (a young Sgt), as an engine mechanic, and had worked on the aircraft shortly before it was hit. I had written a short article about the experience and it still appears on the Hercules Headquarters website under "Articles/The Demise of Aircraft 61-2642." Go to the website www.spectrumwd.com/c130/articles/2642.html to read it and see more pictures and a Stars and Stripes article. My wife swears she can recognize me in the picture. She has a lot better eyesight than I do." | ||
